The Interreg IIIA Italia-Malta Programme is one of four European Community Initiative Interreg III Programmes in which Malta has been participating actively since it joined the EU in 2004.
The Italia-Malta Programme is a Cross Border Cooperation Programme funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2004-2006.

The Italia-Malta Programme aims to strengthen the cultural, economic and social resources which are shared by both Malta and Sicily, while encouraging sustainable development.
This is achieved through close cooperation between territorial public institutions, including local administrations, universities, intermediary organisations, regional bodies, research institutions and cultural associations from both Sicily and Malta.
Eligible area: Italia-Malta 2004-2006

The Italia-Malta Programme encourages cooperation between Malta, Gozo and provinces in South East Sicily namely:
Agrigento
Caltanissetta
Ragusa
Siracusa
Trapani
Catania and Palermo may also participate to a limited extent

here. No further calls for funding will be issued by the Interreg IIIA Italia-Malta Programme 2004-2006.
