Rural Development Programme

Rural Development Programme

The Rural Development Programme (RDP) is drawn up by each European Union Member State on a National or Regional basis. The Programme is based on the Rural Development Policy. A Rural Development Programme is valid for a particular programming period, currently the 2007-2013 period.

The RDP is aimed at improving the economic, social and environmental conditions in rural areas. The Programme brings together a wide range of funding opportunities for the farming and primary processing sectors, rural enterprise and business development, diversification and rural tourism. It includes measures to support and encourage rural communities and delivers the LEADER initiative for local innovation in rural areas.

The aim of the RDP is to help farmers, and their families, agricultural organisations and other people involved in the agricultural industry. Aid under the RDP varies from farm modernisation, training and advice, to developing new business ideas or enhancement of a local community.
